Flathead Lake is the largest lake in the western part of the coterminous United States, surpassing Nevada/California's Lake Tahoe by .5 miles in surface area, 5 miles in length, and about 3.5 miles in width, Flathead Lake is also the largest lake in the state of Montana.

If you've never heard of Flathead Lake and you're considering a vacation, it may be worth looking into. Flathead Lake is the largest natural lake west of the Mississippi river and many people have never heard of it. It's nestled in the middle of the Rocky Mountains, which makes the scenery more than adequate for any traveler. Flathead Lake can definitely provide the vacation of a lifetime.

Flathead Lake is 15 miles wide, 32 miles long, and as deep as 350 feet in places. Yep, it's a big lake. And for those of you that are used to the congestion that many lakes in our country provide, Flathead Lake will seem empty most of the time. It's not uncommon to only see 3 or 4 boats other than right around the launching area. Flathead Lake is as un-congested as any lake you'll ever see.
